One of the defining issues affecting any community is how it supplies its residents with water. Water and waste water are the fuel and exhaust of any healthy economic engine. Failure to supply either in appropriate proportion causes the engine to stop working altogether. Portage County was at risk in both of these areas. Economic development has been one of the main focal points of Chuck Keiper’s career. No candidate in this race can compare with his background and accomplishments in this area. Chuck was the financial and grant writing architect of the Garrettsville Boardwalk project in the 1980s. He wrote and was awarded business development and expansion grants, authored facade renovation programs and helped to create one of the very first business revolving loan funds in the entire state. He has been an innovator and a visionary with a keen sense of what it takes to attract, expand, and keep good paying jobs right here in our community. Read More

Savings

During the course of the past 13+ years, Chuck Keiper has changed the face of Portage County Government. Those changes were aimed at creating the basic business systems necessary to make such a large business (Portage County government is the third largest business operating in Portage County behind Kent State University and Robinson Memorial Hospital) operate cost effectively and responsively. Promises Made, Promises Kept

Chuck Keiper has been our commissioner since 1993. During all of that time Chuck has worked full time serving the needs of Portage County. He promised to fight for our rights to use the water in the Cuyahoga River and he kept his word. Portage County citizens now enjoy full rights to that important body of water, rights we lost at the turn of the last century and regained under Chuck Keiper’s leadership at the beginning of this one.
